Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the exit of George Matlou after four years at the club who will see his contract not renewed upon expiration come June 30, 2026.

The 27-year-old attacking midfielder joined Amakhosi from now defunct Swallows FC in July 2022.

Despite showing glimpses of a great future at the Naturena-based outfit, Matlou endured a frustrating injury-ravaged career with game time coming hard.

During his four-season stay at Naturena, Matlou featured 46 times, providing three assists, and was part of the 2024/25 Nedbank Cup-winning squad.

On Wednesday afternoon, Chiefs confirmed his exit under new coach Fernando Cruz’s era with more departures and arrivals expected in the coming days.

“After four seasons with Kaizer Chiefs, George Matlou’s contract will not be renewed when it expires at the end of June 2026.

“The 27-year-old attacking midfielder joined the Glamour Boys from Swallows FC in July 2022 and played an important role in the squad that lifted the Nedbank Cup during the 2024/25 season.

“We thank George for his commitment and contribution to Amakhosi and wish him well in his future career.”
