Simba SC, led by South African Steve Barker, secured a crucial 2-0 victory over Singida Black Stars in the Tanzanian NBC Premier League on Saturday to keep their title hopes alive.

Barker’s side overcame one of the league’s toughest opponents, with Singida heading into the match sitting fourth in the standings.

DR Congo winger Elie Mpanzu opened the scoring in the 29th minute before former Stellenbosch FC forward Anicet Oura added a second goal to seal an important victory.

The win ensured Simba kept the pressure on league leaders Yanga, who also claimed a convincing 3-0 victory over TRA United.

Simba remain second in the standings with 70 points from 29 matches, two points behind Yanga, who lead the table on 72 points after playing the same number of games.

The title race will be decided on the final day of the season on Tuesday, with all fixtures scheduled to kick off at 15:00.

Barker’s men will host already relegated Kinondoni MC, while Yanga will take on JKT Tanzania in what promises to be an exciting end of the championship race.
