iDiski Times is deeply saddened by the passing of one of South African football’s true pioneers, Basil “Puzzy” Jansen, who passed away this week at the age of 89.

A giant figure in Cape football, Jansen carved out a remarkable playing career, representing several clubs, including Cape Ramblers, the Mother City’s first professional team. His famous nickname, “Puzzy”, was earned through his uncanny ability to puzzle defenders, while his prolific goal-scoring exploits made him one of the Cape’s most admired footballers during that time.

His contribution to the game, however, extended far beyond his playing days. After retiring, Jansen dedicated his life to developing South African football, serving as a coach, mentor, scout and teacher to generations of players. Countless careers were shaped by his guidance, and his influence on the game will continue to be felt for many years to come.

Everyone at iDiski Times extends our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and the wider South African football community during this difficult time.
