Banyana Banyana have announced the starting line-up for their opening match of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament against Tanzania at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca.

The Group B opener is a second WAFCON meeting between the sides, having met at the same stage at the previous edition where they drew 1-1.

South Africa will also play Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso in the pool at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifier tournament.

The 2022 champions finished fourth in the 2024 tournament played in 2025. Their main target is to qualify for a third successive World Cup, meaning they need to finish among the top four.

The top two sides in the groups will advance to the knockout phase with the semi-finalists automatically booking their places at the global showpiece.

Banyana have been boosted among others by the return of experienced striker and former African Player of the year Thembi Kgatlana who missed the last WAFCON due to personal reasons.

Meanwhile midfielder Linda Motlhalo is on the brink of earning her 100th cap, making her only the 13th player to reach the milestone for Banyana.

Here is how they are lining up against the Twiga Stars:
