Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Michael Nkambule has sadly passed on after succumbing to injuries from a recent car accident, iDiski Times has learnt.
Nkambule was 37 at the time of his untimely death on Friday, 07 August, after being involved in an accident over a week ago on his way back to Johannesburg from a football event in Polokwane. He was alone at the time of the accident and had been receiving treatment in hospital after.
Lebo Ditlhake, the Chairman and Founder of Ditlhake Masters FC, confirmed the tragic news to this publication upon learning from one of Nkambule’s teammates but simultaneously declined to comment as they come to terms with the sudden passing of one of Etwatwa, Daveyton’s loved football sons.
At just 15, Nkambule was snapped up by French side Strasbourg after a successful trial with the club’s Under 18s where he came off the bench to grab a goal and two assists.
He however failed to break into the Strasbourg first team before his return to South Africa on a loan spell with now defunct SuperSport United.
Nkambule then re-joined Amakhosi in 2007 before his contract with the Glamour Boys was terminated three years later with just 10 appearances and a single assist.
