Kaizer Chiefs captain Brandon Petersen is looking forward to their MTN8 return though he’s admitted they are facing a tough challenge against Golden Arrows.
After a two-season ‘hiatus’, Amakhosi make a return to the competition for the first time since 2023/24 when they take on Abafana Bes’thende at FNB stadium on Sunday, 9 August.
The Glamour Boys got their Betway Premiership campaign off to a firing start after beating rookies Kruger United 3-1 at Mbombela Stadium, a win that has propelled them to the summit of the standings.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Petersen expressed excitement in their return to the Wafa Wafa competition as they look to capture the trophy that has eluded them since the 2014/15 term.
“It has been a while since we have been in the MTN8 so obviously, I am very happy,” he said.
“We missed out the past two seasons which is something that we don’t want to experience again and we are excited to be back in it.
“Kaizer Chiefs should be competing for this trophy every season and I think our absence has given us extra motivation to do well this time.
“We are looking to hit the ground running and hopefully go all the way.”
