Former Mamelodi Sundowns forward Lucas Ribeiro Costa has broken his silence on his move to Esperance Sportive de Tunis.
Ribeiro, 27, joined the Tunisian giants from Al Ittihad despite never featuring for the Libyan giants.
He had agreed to join Ittihad after becoming a free agent following the relegation from LaLiga 2 with Cultural Leonessa but never appeared for the club.
In a dragged-out transfer saga, Esperance finally secured Ribeiro’s signing this past week, with the Brazilian penning a deal until 2027.
“Tunisian sports club Esperance has just terminated all procedures related to the contract with Brazilian player Lucas Ribeiro, with a three-season contract, thus making him a permanent member of the team until June 2029,” they stated.
Costa himself commented on the move, saying “I chose the team that chose me”.
Ribeiro’s contract saga with Sundowns has not been finalised after he publicly forced a move away from the club ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The case is still ahead of FIFA’s tribunal, but he was initially cleared to play for other clubs while the court case is ongoing.
