Chippa United coach Brandon Truter has revealed the club’s mandate for the season, as well as the personal targets he has set for himself.
Truter was speaking to the media after Chippa suffered a 3-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates at Hollywoodbets Kings Park Stadium in Durban on Sunday afternoon.
He said chairman Chippa Mpengesi made it clear that the club must avoid a repeat of last season, when the Chilli Boys spent much of the campaign battling near the relegation zone.
Chippa eventually survived, finishing 13th, four points ahead of Magesi and Orbit College, who went into the playoffs and were relegated automatically, respectively.
For his part, Truter has set his sights on reaching a cup final and guiding the team to a top-eight finish this season.
“The target is to not go through what we went through last season. Personal targets? Top eight, cup final,” said Truter.
“But from the club side, what the chairman asked that we must not go through this thing [relegation fight] again. I think we are not like that.
“It’s a good team we assembled. Here and there we need to tweak. I’m fairly confident we’ll reach the top eight.
“I’m fairly comfortable that we’ll have a say in the Nedbank Cup, in the Carling Knockout Cup as well. So yeah, I’m fairly confident.”
