Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies coach Godfrey Sapula has given an update on his side’s preparations for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League finals after winning the COSAFA qualifiers.
Sundowns defeated ZESCO Ndola Girls 2-1 in the COSAFA qualifiers final, their third regional title in Gaborone last weekend to book their place in the continental finals to be held later this year at a venue still to be confirmed.

Sapula’s charges won five games, scored 22 goals and conceded just two while they also dominated the individual awards with Refilwe Tholakele getting the Golden Boot for her seven goals, Karabo Dhlamini winning the Player of the tournament and Andile Dlamini the Goalkeeper of the Tournament.
Despite the dominance shown at the qualifiers, the coach felt his side could have done much more, and he will be looking to fix some of the areas like the usage of set-pieces and finishing before the big tournament.
“As I said, when we lost to ZESCO last year this time, we started to prepare this tournament, and for us, we’ll try to take the momentum that we have into CAF Champions League,” said Sapula.
“So, it means already the preparations have started for CAF Champions League, so we’re going to take the momentum, and there’s a lot of things that we need to fix. And if you check, I think we created enough chances to wrap the game up in the first half.
“But yeah, our conversion ratio, our decision making, we’re not really that clinical. You know, someone will say we scored a lot of goals in this tournament, and the coach is talking about being clinical.
“But we know that there’s capacity, players can still improve, so we’re going to tap into that potential and capacity that the players have, and work on our scoring ratio, improving our finesse and in the final third composure.
“I think if we do that, you know, because some of these matches are going to be tight, such that we’re not going to get a lot of chances.
“But also to improve our scoring ratio when it comes to set plays we’ve been doing okay, but we can do better also in that regard.”
