Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando da Cruz has leapt to the defense of goalkeeper Brandon Petersen who has come under scrutiny in recent matches.
Petersen, 31, enjoyed a good season last campaign where he kept 15 clean sheets helping his side finish in the top three in the Betway Premiership.
However, the Amakhosi captain has endured a challenging start to the current term with costly mistakes, most recently leaking in a soft goal in the 2-2 draw against Richards Bay. His mistake was also deemed the reason the side was knocked out of the MTN8 by Golden Arrows in the quarter-finals.
Da Cruz told the media through his interpreter ahead of their upcoming league match that though he is still going to have discussions with his keeper, the side will not change their game model of playing from the back.
“He says Brandon also made mistakes last season,” said the coach.
“But also made a very good season last season, he got a lot of points for his team. He says he trusts him at 100%.
“He’s our captain so he trusts in him he will discuss with him about this weekend, but our game model will not change.
“We’ll continue in our normal game.”
