Milford FC coach Dr Xanti Pupuma was furious after their defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns, saying the ruled don’t apply to everyone.
Pupuma’s men put up a great fight against the African champions, but felt hard done by – as they challenged how Aubrey Modiba won the ball on the edge of the area before squaring it to Iqraam Rayners for his first league goal of the season.
The goal on the stroke of half-time changed the complexion of the game, as Milford now had to chase the lead and it looked like they were running out of steam a in the second interval – with the coach cryptically questioning the referee on the day.
“It’s the first time I leave a game with a little bit of a bad taste in my mouth, maybe from all the Coke that I’ve been drinking,” he told SuperSport TV.
“But really I think some of the rules apply to us and they don’t apply to other teams. It is a bit unfair…
“Look, at the end of the day, we had to win the game and they scored goals. The second goal, my players fell asleep, maybe the changes caused.
“Overall, the display, how they presented themselves was quite good, especially in the first half and parts of the second half.”
When quizzed whether his annoyance steams from the situation before the opening goal, Pupuma reiterated his stance on the match officials.
“I am actually annoyed because we’ve been in the position before and those rules were applied to us and it’s not applied here,” he added.
“In the second half, there was a tackle in the middle of the park – ref takes out a red card, even puts it back and doesn’t even give a yellow card after seeing who he was gonna caution.
“All those things, they mess it up for us. They mess up a good game.”
