Mamelodi Sundowns continued their unbeaten start to the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over newly promoted Milford FC at Lofts Versfeld.

Last season’s Motsepe Foundation Championship play-off winners have been impressive in their debut campaign and despite the defeat, find themselves in fifth place.

Fluid, looking to have possession, they showed no respect to the African champions and had a couple of chances to open the scoring – but found themselves leading at the break when Iqraam Rayners found the net with a tap-in in the 47th minute.

It was a goal the visitors could have felt hard done by – as they challenged how Aubrey Modiba won the ball on the edge of the area before squaring it to the Bafana Bafana striker for his first league goal of the season.

Ronwen Williams made two key saves in each half that kept Miguel Cardoso’s troops in the game – in which on a another day could have swayed the game in the favour to the Stallions.

Antonio van Wyk netted the second after 76 minutes to put the game to bed, and while the Xanti Pupuma led side never gave up – Sundowns proved too strong on the day and moved to 13 points from five games.

They are now level on points with league leaders Orlando Pirates, who have three more goals in the goal difference at present while Masandawna extended their unbeaten run to 33 games in the league at home.
