Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando da Cruz has provided a positive update on the injuries that has been part of their defensive struggles this season.

Amakhosi started the new campaign without a recognised left-back due to injuries to Bradley Cross, Paseka Mako and Nkanyiso Shinga, while Reeve Frosler, who featured in that role also suffered a thigh injury.

However, he returned to action in the 3-2 win over Siwelele on Sunday evening at Dobsonville Stadium, while Cross was notably on the bench after being spotted at training with both Mako and Shinga in mid-week.

“We’re starting to recover injured players, Reeve played today, Cross is very close to be playing again, I think he will play before the FIFA break and during the break we will recover the other players, so I think it would be a good thing for us,” Da Cruz said.

Kabelo Nkgwesa, 19, has been another name hot on the lips in the corridors at Naturena Village since being promoted to the first team and Da Cruz previously stated he will become a key figure for the club in the future as a left-back.

However, there’s still some tactical elements he needs to improve before being fully entrusted in the role as he looks to balance his attacking and defensive responsibilities as a full-back.
