Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Marcelo Allende says missing out on the league title has given the team extra motivation as they target to reclaim it this season.
Orlando Pirates ended Sundowns’ run of eight consecutive league titles by lifting the trophy for the first time since 2012.
After winning the CAF Champions League last season, Allende says the Brazilians are determined to reclaim the Betway Premiership crown and bring it back to Chloorkop.
“It was painful [to lose the league] and I think that has helped us a little bit to get the hunger so we can get back our trophy,” said Allende on Sundowns TV.
The Chilean midfielder added that Sundowns are determined to win the domestic competitions this season after struggling locally in the last campaign.
“We put it on target this year that we have to play and win the local competitions in South Africa,” he added.
“Last year we struggled a little bit in that path. But what I said to you we put it on target to play finals and win.
“We already have MTN8 final, Super Cup, Intercontinental, the league is also important for us, of course the Carling Knockout and Nedbank.”
