Former PSL referee Victor Hlungwani has given his verdict on the so-called “phantom goal” for Polokwane City against Kaizer Chiefs.
This comes after Rise and Shine scored late on to snatch a point at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane this past weekend.

The clash was however marred by a debate sparked by a certain section of Chiefs fans who believed that the ball had sneaked through a hole on the side netting before going in. After-all, the match was delayed by two minutes as match officials noticed loose side netting and fixed it before the game got underway.
Speaking on Soccerzone, Hlungwani has since concluded and given props to the referee for allowing the goal to stand despite remonstration from the Amakhosi fans, further adding that Chiefs players did not even complain.
“Some say the net had a hole; there’s no hole here. We didn’t see anything here, “he said.
“We can see that there’s no hole. The net is secured.
“Here is the ball on the chest. It does not go behind the goal, but in front of Petersen.
“The ball comes in here, hits Petersen’s chest, go inside the net between the goalpost and crossbar.
“So, correct decision by the referee to award the goal. Look at the Chiefs players, no one is complaining.”
