Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane has given an update on midfielder Lebohang Maboe’s injury saying it looks tender but will wait for results of a scan.
Maboe, 32, was an early substitute in Kaizer Chiefs’ goalless draw away at Lamontville Golden Arrows in the Betway Premiership over weekend. Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz confirmed after the game that the change was definitely due to injury.
Maboe meanwhile reported for national team camp on Monday ahead of the back-to-back 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Guinea and Eritrea, to be followed by the international friendly against Egypt in October.
When asked about the former Mamelodi Sundowns player’s progress, Mosimane explained what the team Doctor said to him.
“He’s got a niggling ankle,” said Mosimane.
“You could see the injury he was never even kicked by anybody. So, it’s tender. The doctor has briefed me that we should be careful with him and give him a chance.
“We have a three-week camp, right. So, he’s going for a scan, and then the scan will tell us how far he is. And I think he has worked hard to be in Bafana.
“He should be disappointed by the injury and no one kicked him. Sometimes it’s football, right. So, yeah let’s hope Lebo recovers and then go for it.”
