Mamelodi Sundowns Sporting Director Flemming Berg has conveyed a message of congratulations to the Masandawana faithful following the club’s historic FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup triumph over Al Ahli SC.
The Tshwane giants narrowly beat the back-to-back Asian champions 2-1 this past weekend at Loftus Versfeld Stadium with Nuno Santos netting a brace on the day.
Berg joined Sundowns in the 2021/22 season after leaving his FIFA role as technical assistant and since his arrival at Chloorkop, the Tshwane giants have won four league titles, the CAF Champions League, the Nedbank Cup, Carling Knockout Cup, MTN8 and the latest FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup.
After clinching the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup, Berg congratulated Sundowns and jokingly stated that Masandawa are 78% champions of the world as they wait to face the winner between Copa Libertadores champions and Concacaf champions Toluca.
“Congratulations Masandawana! Four months ago we conquered Africa and won the CAF CL. First time No. 1 on the CAF ranking,” Berg wrote on his X account.
“Yesterday [Saturday] we took it a step further and won the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup. On population – it means we are Champions of 78% of the world.”
