The Confederation of African Football have announced some awards for the group stages of the Africa Cup of Nations, with defending champions Senegal bagging two accolades.
After an exciting first part of the tournament, the 2023 AFCON has two rest days before the knockout stages start on Saturday.
Senegal were the only team to win all three group-stage games, with Aliou Cisse being named Coach of the Group Stages.
Meanwhile, 20-year-old Senegal midfielder netted two goals in two starts before being rested in the final group-stage match, with his fine performances earning him the Young Player of the Group Stages accolade.
Additionally, Equatorial Guinea were one of the surprise packages of the first round, collecting seven points in a group with Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau.
They did concede three goals, but Jesús Owono was named Goalkeeper of the Group Stage after making 11 saves across the three games.
Last but not least, Owono’s teammate Emilio Nsue currently tops the Golden Boot ranking after netting five goals in just three games so far.
