Amajita Drawn In ‘Group Of Death’ At U20 AFCON

South Africa’s U20 side – Amajita – have learnt their opponents for the upcoming U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

The draw took place in Cairo on Thursday, with Amajita being drawn in Group B, alongside Nigeria, Egypt and Morocco.

Raymond Mdaka’s men qualified for the tournament after beating Zambia 2-0 at the in the Cosafa U20 final.

The U20 AFCON will see 13 teams compete from 26 April – 18 May, 2025, with the top four nations to qualify for the 2025 FIFA Under-20 World Cup that will be staged in Chile from 27 September-19 October, 2025.

All Groups:

Group A: Cote d’Ivoire, UNIFAC2*, DR Congo, Ghana, Tanzania

Group B: Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa, Morocco

Group C: Senegal, Zambia, Kenya, Sierre Leone

*The identity of the second team from the UNIFFAC Zonal Union is still to be determined following Congo’s FIFA suspension.

The top two teams in each group qualify for the quarter-finals along with the two best third-placed sides, before the competition continues in a knockout format.
