Bafana Bafana have qualified for back-to-back AFCON after Congo Brazzaville failed to beat South Sudan at Juba Stadium
Hugo Broos’ side qualified for the second successive AFCON after Congo Brazzaville lost 3-2 to South Sudan this afternoon.
Bafana traveled to Uganda earlier today and arrived already in search of three points. However, just a few hours after landing in Kampala, they learned that they have qualified for the AFCON for the second time in a row after Congo Brazzaville lost a five-goal thriller to South Sudan.
With Congo losing on Thursday, they can now only reach a maximum of seven points, which is one less than Broos’ men already have.
With CAF using head-to-head rule, and Bafana beating Congo 5-0 in South Africa before playing to a 1-1 draw in the return leg, even a draw would not have been enough for Congo as they could’ve only reached eight points and the head-to-head favours South Africa.
Broos and his team, though, will honour the last two fixtures as they are still fighting to secure the first place.
They will face Uganda at Mandela National Stadium in Kampala on Friday afternoon, before hosting South Sudan four days later in Cape Town at the DHL Stadium.
