Broos Confirms Two Changes To Bafana Squad, Adams Dropped

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has dropped Jayden Adams from the squad while Thalente Mbatha has been replaced due to injury for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Congo Brazzaville.

Adams has been removed from the squad and replaced by Sinoxolo Kwayiba of Chippa United with the team joined in camp in Gqeberha ahead of the Friday clash.

His Stellenbosch teammate Fawaaz Basadien was present, arriving later, due to the MTN8 final against Orlando Pirates on Saturday in Durban.

“Jayden Adams is replaced by [Sinoxolo] Kwayiba – why? I will not give so much comment about that, but the behaviour of Jayden forced me to put him out of the team,” Broos said, as per SABC Sport.

Adams has been a consistent member of the senior national team since the 2023 AFCON, where he was part of the squad that won a bronze medial in Ivory Coast.

Broos has often has a zero-tolerance approach to behaviour since his arrival but has potentially left the door open to the highly-rated midfielder who turned 23 in May.

“A good professional attitude is the – ja, if you ask something about a player, it’s that they are professionals, so if I feel that a guy doesn’t have that attitude, then for me it’s done,” Broos stated.

“He’s not a guy who is 16, he’s not an old player either, but if he has the attitude that he had, the only thing I can do is get him out of the group, because this is not what I want from players.

“In the past months, several times I said, ‘What a group I have.’ I was so happy with the group – the right attitude, the right behaviour, professional, and everything you want.

“So, I can’t afford to let someone in that doesn’t have that attitude anymore, so it’s up to Jayden now to think about it, on what he’s going to do with his future.”

Mbatha’s injury in the cup final this weekend has seen Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Bathusi Aubaas return to the fold.
