Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos believes that influential attacker Patrick Maswanganyi can potentially be Themba Zwane’s successor.
Broos has for some time reiterated that Bafana needs to find a successor for Zwane, who is approaching his 36th birthday. ‘Mshishi’ has been ruled out of competitive action since sustaining an Achilles an injury in a 1-1 draw against Congo Brazzaville back in October.

Since then, Maswanganyi has fitted like a glove in that number 10 role as he has scored in back-to-back AFCON Qualifiers ties against Uganda and South Sudan to secure the top spot for Bafana in Group K.
The Belgium mentor was left impressed by Maswanganyi’s performance in the past two games and believes that ‘Tito’ has the potential to be Zwane’s successor in the team.
“I’m very happy with the performance of Patrick. I said it already before we need to look for someone who can replace Themba Zwane,” Broos told the media.
“Unfortunately, we have to do it earlier. I wanted Themba to be with us now because I know how important he is for the team but what Patrick showed today, yeah, makes me happy. It’s not really what we want but I asked him to play differently than at [Orlando] Pirates.
“He has the potential, otherwise, I shouldn’t select him so with his game today also on Friday he scored, today he scored that will give him a boost of confidence and I am happy with his performance today but he still have to improve.

“He still need to play, give passes which is very important for us and he can, I’m sure he can but he needs a little bit of time, in the game today he did what I asked.
“I’m happy with his performance.”
