The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has scheduled a hearing date to determine the legitimate winner of the 2025 African Cup of Nations between Senegal and Morocco.
The hearing will take place on 8 October 2026 at the CAS headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.
A shock ruling back in March this year saw the Lions of Teranga being stripped of the Africa Cup of Nations title, with the Atlas Lions declared champions. Senegal appealed referred their case to the CAS.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) ruling to award the title to Morocco was declared by its appeals board that Senegal were “declared to have forfeited the final” and its 1-0 win in extra-time, therefore a 3-0 default win for host nation Morocco.
On Friday afternoon, the CAS released a statement on the ongoing case.
THE COURT OF ARBITRATION FOR SPORT (CAS) SETS THE HEARING IN THE PROCEDURE REGARDING THE 2025 AFCON FINAL
Lausanne, July 24, 2026 – The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) confirms that a hearing has been
scheduled following the appeal filed by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) against the
Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Moroccan Royal Football Federation (FRMF)
(“the parties”) regarding the final of the 2025 African Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 (AFCON 2025).
The hearing will take place on October 8, 2026, at the CAS headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Filed with CAS on March 25, 2026, the FSF’s appeal requests the annulment of a decision made
by CAF declaring that the Senegal national team lost the AFCON 2025 final by forfeit and awarding
the victory to the Morocco national team with a score of 3-0. The appeal asks CAS
to declare FSF the winner of AFCON 2025.
The parties have not reached an agreement to implement an accelerated procedure; the procedure therefore follows the usual schedule provided by the CAS rules. The hearing date was set after consulting the parties, who did not request that the hearing be public. This means it will be held behind closed doors. At the end of the hearing, the Arbitration Panel will begin its deliberations.
At this stage, the CAS is not able to indicate when a decision will be made, but it will not be announced on the same day as the hearing. The CAS has become aware of incorrect information circulating about this procedure, which was then picked up by the media. Only information released through the official CAS channels is considered official, and any announcement regarding this case will be published on the CAS website.
