New Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernardo Da Cruz has provided an update on unsettled winger Glody Lilepo ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Lilepo arrived at Chiefs in January 2025 from France Ligue 1 side Valenciennes FC on an undisclosed transfer fee. The 28-year-old immediately had a positive impact upon his arrival at Amakhosi by scoring four goals and laying one assist, aiding his side to their 10-year trophy drought end as they clinched the Nedbank Cup.
Last season, he picked up from where he left off, even scoring the winner in Chiefs’ opening league match down in Cape Town against Stellenbosch FC.
Hopes were so high from Chiefs supporters for the following season and the DRC international didn’t disappoint as he finished the season with nine goals and four assists in all competitions.
It was a shock when preparations for the 2026/27 season began without Lilepo at Chiefs as he was a key player. The former Valenciennes FC attacker didn’t travel with the squad to Spain for pre-season which raised a lot of questions but finally Da Cruz has made it clear about the future of the DRC international didn’t.
“Lilepo he has other opportunities elsewhere,” Da Cruz told the media.
“And the management is open to listen as the institution.”
The Glamour Boys are up against Scottland FC for the Toyota Cup clash on Sunday, and it looks highly likely that Lilepo will not form part of the team.
