Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has dropped a major bombshell on the high possibility of Thabo Cele’s exit who he says does not form part of his plans for the 2026/27 season.
Cele joined the Glamour Boys from Russian outfit Fakel Voronezh in 2025 racking up 29 appearances across all competitions in the 2024/25 campaign as they won the Nedbank Cup after a 10-year trophy drought.
This past campaign, injuries played a huge part in halting his progress as he featured in just 21 matches in all competitions.
Da Cruz has now confirmed that the KwaZulu-Natal-born midfielder is not in his plans for the new season.
“For Thabo Cele, I’ve got lot of players in Thabo Cele’s position, ” said Da Cruz at the Toyota Cup presser on Friday.
“I prefer a different type of players in his position and he’s not in my plans for this season. So, the preference is on all the other profiles, so for the moment he is not in the plan.”
Da Cruz is now gearing up his troops for the Toyota Cup clash against Scottland FC at the Royal Sports Complex on Sunday, 26 July.
