Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari picked up an injury on international duty as Rwanda missed out on qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations despite beating Nigeria.
The Wasps beat the Super Eagles 2-1 in Uyo on Monday, with Ntwari starting in goal.
However, the Chiefs keeper had to be subbed off after 69 minutes due to injury, with Nigeria leading 1-0 at the time thanks to a goal by Samuel Chukwueze in the 59th minute.
Rwanda, though, managed to turn the game around thanks to goals by Ange Mutsinzi in the 72 minute and Innocent Nshuti in the 75th minute.
But the win wasn’t enough for Rwanda to book their AFCON ticket after their surprise 1-0 home defeat to Libya on Thursday.
They finished on eight points in Group D, level with Benin, who had the better head-to-head record after beating them 3-0 at home, while losing 2-1 in Rwanda.
It is yet to be seen how serious Ntwari’s injury is, but he has a few more days to recover with Chiefs next game only on 27 November against Richards Bay.
