Morocco head coach Walid Regragui says the two best teams on the continent are meeting in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final on Sunday.
Morocco ousted Nigeria in the semi-finals 4-2 on penalties after the match finished 0-0 after extra-time, where they now meet Senegal, another unbeaten side in the competition, who eliminated Egypt 1-0 in the other semi-final showdown.
Sadio Mane scored the solitary goal to set up a high-profile final spectacle this weekend in Rabat, the economic capital of Morocco – where the Atlas Lions have been based from the opening game of the tournament.
“It’s an amazing final, the best two teams in Africa and the best in the past few years, if you told me in the beginning we’d play Senegal in the final, I’d say ooff, it’s complicated because it’s a big team with a good coach,” he said.
“Good people, I love Senegal, they are the brothers of Moroccan people and for me it’s a good final for the AFCON, for the publicity of the AFCON and the best teams in Africa. But we now have to recover a lot after 120 minutes, and Senegal 90 minutes.
“We only have a few days to recover and I think it’s 50/50. Inshallah we will win this final, it’s the first time in history we will play Senegal in the final. Also Morocco only play three finals in the history of AFCON, but Inshallah, with our fans we do it and make history.”
The two sides meet on Sunday evening at the Prince Moulay Abdallah Stadium – both looking to add a second star for their nations at 21h00 (GMT+1).
