Vilakazi Sets Clear Ambition With Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs teenager Mfundo Vilakazi says he wants to help the club qualify for the CAF Champions League and South Africa reach the U20 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 18-year-old has been brimming with confidence judging by what was seen at his first youth international camp, which comes as no surprise after an eventful few months.

Since the AFCON break, Vilakazi has been promoted to the senior team at Chiefs under interim coach Cavin Johnson, and has since made his professional debut, and featured in the most recent Soweto Derby at the Calabash.

While it’s been a tumultuous season for Amakhosi, who looks set to end another season without silverware, Vialkazi is optimistic and wants to help the team secure the runners-up place in the DStv Premiership and qualify for Africa’s elite club competition.

“Some of the things that I’d like to achieve at club level is to make sure that we try to win all the remaining games because that will increase our chances to finish in number two and hopefully play in the CAF Champions League,” he said.

“In terms of the national team [now that I’m here with the U20 squad], I just wish that we do well and qualify for the upcoming AFCON.”

Vilakazi will be aiming to get more minutes with Chiefs in the league when they take on Cape Town City and Stellenbosch over the next week.
