Al Ahly legend Wael Gomaa has slammed Ahly coach Marcel Koller after the Egyptians lost on a penalty shootout to Pachuca in the Intercontinental Cup.
The match played out to a goalless draw and was decided on penalty kicks with the Mexicans winning 6-5 in the shootout.
Gomaa said after the game that Koller should take the blame for certain decisions, including Percy Tau not being used as a designated penalty taker. Tau did take a kick in sudden death, and converted, after the Egyptians had missed an earlier opportunity to win the shootout.
“Marcel Koller bears a large part of the loss, just as the coach is praised. After winning tournaments, he must bear responsibility for losing,” Wael Gomaa said after the match, as per ysscores.
“The biggest blame is on Kohler. He pushed Kahraba, who was not quite ready, and took out Wissam Abu Ali, and also let him shoot the penalty kicks before Percy Tau, who was ready and had his foot on the field.
