Egyptian giants Al Ahly picked up a 1-1 draw in Jose Riveiro’s first game in charge against Pachuca FC.
Ahly completed their preparations for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup with a friendly match against the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup champions.
Pachuca took the lead after 10 minutes via John Kennedy, but new signing Mahmoud Trezeguet pulled one back in the 51st minute. Pachuca, though, beat Ahly 5-3 on the subsequent penalty shootout which was arranged as part of the friendly match.
The game was Riveiro’s first match in charge since he took over the Egyptian giants, ahead of their Club World Cup opener against Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami.
Ahly have been drawn in Group A at the tournament alongside Inter Miami, Palmeiras and Porto. Meanwhile, Pachuca are in Group H with Real Madrid, RB Salzburg and Al-Hilal.
