Augsburg Star Ready To Represent Ghana

FC Augsburg defender Patric Pfeiffer says he has applied for his Ghanaian passport and is ready to represent the Black Stars.

Pfeiffer, 24, is a 1.96m tall centre-back who was born in Hamburg, Germany.

After starting his career in the youth ranks of Hamburger SV, he had his breakthrough at Darmstadt 98 in Bundesliga 2 in December 2019.

After Darmstadt, he got promoted to the Bundesliga in 2023/24, Pfeiffer was snapped up on a free transfer by Augsburg and made 11 appearances last season.

Pfeiffer represented Germany at U18 and U19 level, but his upward trajectory has seen the Black Stars make contact with the tall centre-back, who confirmed he is ready to don the Ghana shirt.

“A few weeks ago I was in Ghana and now I get my passport,” he told SA journalists during Augsburg’s pre-season camp in Mpumalanga.

“I hope in September I can get a call-up.

“I know the coach, Otto Addo because he was the coach of Hamburg in the youth team [where I played].

“I have good contacts with him. I wanted to join the Black Stars before but I didn’t have my passport, but now it’s done and I’m ready.”

In July 2022, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed Pfeiffer wanted to switch his nationality but the highly-rated centre-back is yet to his debut for the Black Stars, but he is keen to represent the country he loves.

“Yes of course, because this is my motherland, I love Ghana, I love the people, I love the vibe, I love the food,” he added.

“Yes, I was born and raised in Germany but I love Ghana [as well].”
