Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Khama Billiat has denied receiving a $45.000 signing on fee for joining Scottland FC this transfer window.
Billiat, 34, revived his career at Yadah FC and has won the Fans Choice Award, while also becoming the second runners-up in Soccer Star Of The Year after his first season back in Zimbabwe.
He has now completed a switch to highly-ambitious Scottland FC and there were claims he received a whopping $45.000 (R851.000) signing-on fee.
However, the former Downs and Chiefs midfielder dismissed those rumours, saying they’re putting him at risk of being targeted by criminals.
“I am not at liberty to divulge the financial terms of my contract with Scottland, but I need to clarify that the $45,000 figure circulating on social media is baseless. My deal is nowhere near that,” Billiat told Zimpapers Sports Hub, as cited by the Chronicle.
“Ordinarily I would have ignored the reports, but it creates problems. It puts my life in danger because people will be made to believe that I have such amounts of money, and they [criminals] can target me.

“There is no doubt that there is a lot of interest in what is happening at Scottland but at the same time it is unprofessional to create hype using false information that then puts me at risk over money that I do not have.
“It is quite disturbing that someone finds it okay to just come up with a ridiculous figure and run with it on social media without reflecting on what it does, especially to me.”
Meanwhile, Scottland are expected to put together a star-studded squad, with reigning Castle Lager Soccer Star of the Year, Walter Musona and first runner-up, Lynoth Chikuhwa, who was the league’s top scorer, also expected to join.
