Kaizer Chiefs striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana has received a national team call-up by Burundi ahead of their important Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Peter Shalulile’s Namibia.
The 25-year-old scored seven goals in his first six games for Kaizer Chiefs but struggled to find the back of the net in 2023.
Latest news out of Naturena is that Chiefs would allow him to leave the club ahead of 2023/24 season, as reported by iDiski Times.
The Burundian international made 21 appearances for Amakhosi in all competitions, scoring eight goals, with his last – and only in 2023, coming in March from the penalty spot against Motsepe Foundation Championship side Casric Stars in the Nedbank Cup round of 16.
Burundi national team coach Etienne Ndayiragije, though, included him in his 29-man squad that will face Namibia in June.
This is a must win match for The Swallows, if they are to keep their hopes of making it to the AFCON in Ivory Coast next year alive. Meanwhile Namibia needs only a draw to secure their place.
