Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has affirmed that their CAF Champions League second leg tie against Espérance Sportive de Tunis is only halfway.
Sundowns did themselves a huge favour this past Sunday by winning away in Tunisia in their CAF Champions League semi-final first leg. This was Sundowns’ first away win in the CAF Champions knockout stages since April 2023, when they won in Algeria beating CR Belouizdad.

It’s also a big achievement as they ended ES Tunis’ unbeaten run at home in the CAF Champions League, which lasted for two years.
Despite winning away, Sundowns shouldn’t think it’s over because a team like ES Tunis is capable of winning away from home, as witnessed in the quarterfinal against Al Ahly SC, where they won 3-2, something that doesn’t usually happen in Egypt.
Having won in Pretoria back in March 2024, The Taraji will aim to do that again if they are to keep their chances of going into the final.
Cardoso, who was in charge of ES Tunis the last time they won in South Africa, mentioned that this clash is not over yet.
“Esperance is a big club whoever is the coach, a big team whoever is the coach. That all comes from their history that’s a exactly the same thing with Sundowns, it’s not the coach that makes the club it’s the fans, the board, the history and the players,” Cardoso told the media.
“Regarding the lineup for the second leg, who’s in who’s out let’s go back to Pretoria let’s understand how we want to play the game and then what we have to do.
“Now we just on halftime that’s how important it is to go to the second match.”
