Chipezeze Hopes For Zim Recall

After his heroics in the Carling Knockout competition, Magesi goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze says he would love to get back into the Zimbabwean national team, but to do that he must remain consistent at club level.

The 34-year-old was instrumental as Magesi stunned Mamelodi Sundowns in Saturday’s final, coming from a goal down to win 2-1 in Bloemfontein.

Chipezeze made some huge saves in the game to keep Magesi in contention, which earned him his fourth consecutive Man-of-the-Match award in the tournament.

With Zimbabwe one of seven COSAFA nations to have qualified for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations, he was asked if he hoped these performances would get him back into the national team, having last played for the Warriors back in 2020.

“For now, I’m just focused on making the club grow,” Chipezeze told media after the final.

“That’s the most important thing now. And personally, I would like to also go back into the national team, but the guys that are there, they’re doing well also.

“It’s also good that I’m also now in the fold, with the performances, also, through hard work also, at the end of the day, it’s the coaches decision.

“All I can do is continue working hard, because it’s pointless for you not to perform and expect to be called for the national team. It will be not fair to the other guys who are performing. I’ll just keep putting in the work. At the end of the day, they say, if you work hard, the rewards will come.

“So I will just continue with the consistency, because we we going to be playing only AFCON in December next year, so there’s still time. So I’m just now focused on making sure that I produce good performances, week in, week out, and the rest will take care of itself.”
