Despite the defeat away from home, Milford FC remains at the top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship, while Cape Town Spurs’ winless run extended to seven matches.
The Urban Warriors’ struggles continued last Friday when Baroka held them to a 1-1 draw after Enock Agyei scored early in the first half. Former Spurs youth player Clyde Combi equalised for Bakgakga just before halftime. Spurs dropped to 14th place and Baroka dropped to 10th place.
On Saturday afternoon, Hungry Lions came from a goal down to end Milford’s three-match winning run. Ditau di a rora jumped to seventh place, meanwhile, Milford remained top of the table.
JDR Stars remained title contenders after they narrowly beat struggling Venda Football Club 2-1. Banele Hlophe opened the scoring just before halftime, and Siyabonga Dubula equalided from the penalty spot with eight minutes remaining. Prince Nxumalo scored the winner for Stars with two minutes remaining before the final whistle.
After a great start to the season, Casric Stars find themselves in a six-match winless run after suffering a 2-1 defeat against Pretoria Callies at home. Callies moved out of the relegation zone with 12 points after 11 matches.
Three games were played on Sunday, but all eyes were on Orbit College versus Durban City where both teams had an opportunity to close the gap on Milford. Gomolemo Khoto gave Orbit an early lead but Joslin Kamatuka levelled matters for City in the second half for a share of the spoils.
Second-placed Orbit move to 20 points, and are three points behind Milford, while City are a point further behind alongside Black Leopards, who drew with Upington City on Saturday, and JDR.
Kruger United meanwhile beat AmaTuks 2-0, and while Leruma United picked up a point, they remain bottom of the table after a goalless draw with Highbury.
