Al Ahly have collected their second draw in the newly-invented Egyptian League Cup, thanks to a 92nd minute equaliser against Ismaily on Monday afternoon.
The Egyptian giants are playing the tournament with several academy players in their line-up due to several first-team regulars being at the Africa Cup of Nations and others being ruled out with Covid – or are still recovering after testing positive.
On Tuesday, Al Ahly drew 1-1 to Ismaily after Ahmed Sayed Gharib ironed out Carmelo Algaranaz’s first-half goal. As a consequence, Mosimane’s side moved to two points in Group B of the newly formed League Cup.
Ismaily, meanwhile, move to four points, with three more group stage games outstanding for both sides.
All 18 Egyptian Premier League games were drawn into three groups and each team has five group stage games.
Ahly are in Group B alongside Ismaily, Smouha, Arab Contractors, NBE as well as El Gouna and had collected a goalless draw in their first game.
The three group winners and the best second-placed team will participate in the semi-finals of the competition.
Monday draw was Al Ahly’s third of the 2021/22 campaign and Mosimane’s 17th in 75 games with the Club of the Century. He’s won 53 and lost five matches, while lifting five trophies.
