Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo will represent his former club after long-time Amakhosi fan Salomon Kalou extended the club an invitation for him to be part of the Salomon Kalou For Impact Weekend.

The event, set to be staged at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan on Saturday, 16 May, is a major charitable event organised by the Kalou Foundation to support social causes in Cote d’ Ivoire.

In a game between Team Kalou and Team Drogba, ‘Mdokies’ will turn out for the latter alongside Kalou’s former international and ex-club teammates, led by his former Chelsea and Cote d’ Ivoire teammate, Didier Drogba.

Yusuf Muhammad, who is the co-ordinator of the Chiefs Legends team, will form part of the Naturena delegation accompanying Khumalo to Ivory Coast.

Chiefs Director of Marketing Jessica Motaung expressed gratitude for the club being invited as it will strengthen ties between Kalou and Chiefs.

“Having representatives of the Club in Abidjan will help strengthen the ties between Chiefs and Kalou,” she told the club’s website.

“We are thankful to have been handed an invitation by the Kalou Foundation to be part of the Impact weekend. We are honoured to have Doctor representing us alongside so many world and African legends.

“Yusuf works with our legends and he will be gaining valuable experience and insight which will be valuable as we continue to grow the work we do with our former players.”

Kalou, who has during his visit to Naturena in November 2025, admitted being a long-time admirer of Khumalo and Chiefs, expressed excitement at having the South African football icon in his presence.

“For us to have Doctor Khumalo play against me and my brother is something we are looking forward to. We have long admired him.

“I have a strong bond with Kaizer Chiefs and we will to grow that with Doctor and Yusuf visiting us in Abidjan.”

Khumalo, who was most recently conferred with an Honorary Doctorate – Doctor of Philosophy in Science (Kinesiology and Coaching Science) honoris causa from the Faculty of Sciences at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), is equally honoured to be at the event.

“Kalou is doing excellent work in Cote d’ Ivoire and I am happy to be part of the Impact Weekend, it’s going to be wonderful to line up with and against so many legends of the game.”
