Former Pirates Coach Replaces Ex-Chiefs Coach At African Giants

Former Orlando Pirates coach Milutin Sredojević has been appointed as the new coach of Sudanese giants Al-Merrikh replacing former Kaizer Chiefs mentor Giovanni Solinas.

Al-Merrikh have dropped the ball in the last two seasons after failing to qualify for the CAF Champions League group stages.

The 55-year-old Serbian tactician was relieved of his duties as coach of the Libyan national team in September 2024 having taken over the Libyan hotseat from Salim Al-Jalali who had been serving as Libya’s interim head coach in October 2023.

Despite his time with the Libyan national team coming to an end, Micho went unbeaten in his first eight games, winning six, with 95% of his squad being local players. Before his arrival, Libya had won just eight games in four years.

The club made the announcement via its social media platforms on Thursday via a statement.

“Today, Thursday, Al-Merreikh signed a contract with Serbian coach Milutan Sredojevic, known as “Micho”, as technical director for a year and a half, assisted by Serbian assistant coach Dusan Stojanovic, Frenchman Frank Blin as physical trainer, and Algerian Hajj Musa Bahilel as performance analyst,” the statement read.
