Gamondi Sends Message To Rulani At Wydad

Yanga SC head coach Miguel Gamondi has thrown his weight behind Rulani Mokwena’s move to Wydad Athletic Club but equally warned him of the daunting task that awaits ahead in Moroccan football.

Mokwena, 37, put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the three-time CAF Champions League winners shortly after his surprise exit from Mamelodi Sundowns despite spearheading the club to the DStv Premiership title and the inaugural African Football League.

Gamondi, who has coached both in South Africa and Morocco, is currently in Mzansi for the Mpumalanga Premier’s Cup and the Toyota Cup where they will be taking on Kaizer Chiefs this coming weekend.

The Argentinean mentor wished Mokwena well on his North African odyssey but was honest enough to let him know that he will have his work cut out at The Red Castle compared to how “easy” things were at Chloorkop.

“In the beginning I’m very happy Rulani went to Morocco,” Gamondi told the media ahead of the Chiefs clash.

“It will not be easy because you know North African football is tough, especially in Morocco.

“With that is not in the best moment now, not coming in the best time of Wydad.

“I cannot advise! I wish him all the best, lucky and I know he’s a hard worker and he need to know the league first – this is important,” he added.

“I’m very happy when I saw like South Africa’s coaches go abroad because like in Simba as well – Fadlu Davids. He was a player when I was in Sundowns and Platinum Stars.

“I’m very happy because the South African football is growing being in coaches. Not only Pitso [Mosimane], but now is other coaches.

“But I think I wish all the best but really will be not like when he take Sundowns. It’s another Wydad Casablanca. I know very well.

“I work in Sundowns…sorry, in Wydad, and it will be very, very tough.”

The clash between Chiefs and Yanga at the Toyota Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein will take place on Sunday, July 28, with kick-off anticipated for 15:00.
