Mokwena Pleased With MCA Prep In Tunisia

MC Alger secured a morale boosting 3-0 pre-season win over Sporting Ben Arous in Tunisia, as the start of the Algerian Ligue 1 draws closer for new head coach Rulani Mokwena.

Last week it was confirmed, MCA will face Sead Ramovic’s CR Belouizdad on the opening day of the season on 23 August, in a blockbuster fixture for the champions against the side who finished third in the league.

In their previous fixture in Tunisia, they drew 2-2 with domestic rivals CS Constantine, while their first friendly ended without goals, but Mokwena has been left pleased with what they have achieved in the two weeks so far.

“We’re in our second week of pre-season and introduced some new concepts of playing, slowly the players are adapting, which was important for us, against a good opponent, and also good to see some of the young kids perform,” he said.

“We’re happy with the kids, the overall performance and the team’s adaptation to new concepts. The camp is good, the chemistry is good, the energy is good and positive, but we still have a lot of work to do.

“We started later than others, so we need to catch up physically – and technically we have to do a bit better, we just continue working [hard] that’s the most important thing.”

After the opening day fixture against CRB, Mokwena’s task doesn’t get easier with a mouthwatering clash against city rivals USM Alger.
