Musona In Shock Retirement U-Turn

Zimbabwe head coach Michael Nees has lured former captain Knowledge Musona out of retirement and has been named in their latest 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers squad.

Musona, 34, has been a regular feature for Al-Okhdood Club in the Saudi Pro League, playing primarily in the 10 role as his role evolves in the latter stages of his career.

And his return of five goals and an assist in 20 games has seen their Dutch coach look towards adding his experience to the Warriors, joining Khama Billiat in retirement u-turns.

Having retired back in 2022 due to the issues that saw the national team banned by FIFA from football over political interference, ZIFA look to be heading back in the right direction and are aiming for the experience players to lead their new emerging talents.

He’s among three Premier Soccer League (PSL) players called up, with Washington Arubi (Marumo Gallants), Divine Lunga (Mamelodi Sundowns) and Terrence Dzvukamanja (SuperSport United) in the 23-man squad to face Benin and Nigeria this month.
