Nigeria Announce Squad For Bafana Clash

New Nigeria coach Finidi George has announced his Super Eagles squad to face Bafana Bafana and Benin in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The Nigeria Football Federation appointed George as new permanent head coach last month and he’ll immediately under pressure after Nigeria’s slow start in Group C.

The 2023 AFCON finalists need a result against South Africa after drawing with Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

On matchday three, Nigeria will host Hugo Broos’, who started the qualification with three points from two games after beating Benin 2-1 before their surprise 2-0 defeat in Rwanda.

Overall, Nigeria and South Africa have faced each other 13 times, with Bafana winning just one clash, while the Super Eagles picked up eight wins. Their most recent encounter at the AFCON semi-final ended 1-1 but Nigeria progressed to the final on penalties.

It’s a strong squad, with several stars from overseason, including African Footballer of the Year, Victor Osimhen, Bayer 04 Leverkusen duo Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella, who just secured the Bundesliga title and UEFA Europa League winner, Ademola Lookman, who scored a hat-trick in the final.

Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali also made the squad after his heroics at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
