The 2023/24 DStv Premiership campaign won by Mamelodi Sundowns has seen several records rewritten already, and there are a few more that could still tumble after this weekend’s final league fixtures.
Of course, this season’s title was a record seventh consecutive win for Sundowns, and also a record 14th in the Premier Soccer League era.
They have also picked up a record points tally, which could be extended when they face Cape Town City in their final game on Saturday. They are currently on 73 points, having already surpassed the previous record of 71, which was also held by Sundowns.
They are currently tied for the most wins in a 30-game campaign, with 22, and another record will be achieved if they beat City to make it 23.
Undefeated in 29 games, if City fail to beat them, they would also become the first club to finish a DStv Premiership season undefeated.
And if City fail to score, Sundowns would also hold the record for the fewest goals conceded. They have currently conceded 10 in 29 games, with the current record being 11, achieved by Kaizer Chiefs twenty years ago.
They are also currently sitting on the biggest goal difference record. With the previous mark being +39, Rulani Mokwena’s team currently have a goal difference of +42.
Another record already achieved is the biggest gap between first and second. Currently, they are 23 points ahead, seven points better than the previous record of 16.
They have also tied the record for the most away wins this season, with 11, which was also achieved by Stuart Baxter’s Chiefs side in 2014/15.
With 11 wins at home too so far, they could also equal the record of 12 if they beat City on Saturday. (Sundowns have won 12 times twice before, while now-defunct outfits Bidvest Wits and Ajax Cape Town have also done this).
