The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) have announced Ehab Galal as the successor to Carlos Queiroz, who was relieved of his duties on Sunday.
Galal is highly revered in Egyptian football but comes as a surprise appointment as he vacates his role at Pyramids to assume the leadership at the North African giants.
Hossam Hassan, who is currently available after his exit from Ittihad of Alexandria was the front-runner for the position and a clear favourite amongst the masses.
However, the EFA has opted for Galal, who’s been lauded for his attack-minded style of play in the Egyptian Premier League and CAF Confederation Cup this season.
Despite a nomadic career in the domestic league, Galal has yet to win silverware, with his biggest achievement leading the unfancied Misr El-Makkasa to a league runners-up spot in 2017.
He will now be tasked to lead the seven-time African champions in the upcoming 2023 AFCON qualifiers that kicks off in June.
