Nigeria have appointed Finidi George as head coach of the Super Eagles, the Nigerian Football Federation confirmed on Monday.
George, a former UEFA Champions League winner with Ajax during his playing days, was already in charge as interim coach after Jose Peseiro left following the silver medal at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Under George, Nigeria, who were also linked with Pitso Mosimane, beat Ghana 2-1 but lost 2-0 to Mali during the previous international window.
On Monday, the NFF announced George’s appointment as head coach
“The Board of Nigeria Football Federation on Monday approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Committee to appoint former ace winger Finidi George as Head Coach of the Senior Men National Football Team, Super Eagles,” the NFF stated.
George won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations as player, and represented Nigeria 45 times.
His first game as head coach will be the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Hugo broos’ Bafana Bafana.
