Two South African match officials Abongile Tom and Akhona Makalima have been named for the CAF Super Cup final between Al Ahly SC and Zamalek SC.
The duo has been doing a lot of international football in recent years, and in January formed part of the three South African match officials that did duty at the 2023 AFCON finals in Ivory Coast alongside Zakhele Siwela.
Tom recently officiated a CAF Champions League second-leg clash between Algerian giants MC Algers and Tunisian side US Monastir which was the decider on which side sealed passage to the group stages.
Makalima has experience at a high level having been involved in the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in 2022 which was hosted by Costa Rica.
Tom and Makalima will leave South Africa this week for Saudi Arabia as they have been named Video Assistant Referees for the clash between Al Ahly and Zamalek. Libyan referee Mutaz Al-Shlmani will officiate the match.
