Spurs Out Of Relegation Zone After Thumping Win

Cape Town Spurs moved one point clear of the relegation danger after hammering Pretoria Callies 4-0 while Black Leopards improved their chances of making the playoffs after Casric Stars, Kruger United and JDR Stars all dropped points.

Round 26 of the Motsepe Foundation Championship started in Gauteng where title contenders JDR Stars played to a goalless draw against Kruger United with both sides missing an opportunity to close the gap between them and Durban City.

The Urban Warriors eased their relegation woes with a resounding success over Mpho Maleka. Luke Baartman made the headlines after he came off the bench to score and assist. Khaya Mfecane also continued with his massive form netting his third goal this season and on loan Keenan Bezuidenhout scored the fourth goal.

Pretoria University narrowly beat title contenders Casric Stars 2-1 at Tuks Stadium. The Tshwane-based side led for almost the whole game when Tshepang Makara and Kgomotso Mosadi scored two goals. Stars’ Joel Agoe scored in the 96th minute but that was not enough to at least secure a point for them. Casric Stars failed to collect maximum points in the last two matches and dropped to fourth place in the standings.

The game between Durban City and Milford FC was only played for 45 minutes and it was suspended after a tragedy following the passing of City’s midfielder Sinamandla Zondi. The 22-year-old is believed to have collapsed during warm-up and was rushed to hospital but declared deceased shortly after. May his soul rest in peace!

The Relegation battle between Leruma United and Venda Football saw the Limpopo-based side coming out tops with a 2-1 win as Onke Moletshe netted a brace for Venda to moved them out of the relegation zone.

Leopards kept their chances of returning to the South African topflight football alive after coming back from 1-0 down to win 2-1 against stubborn Highbury FC. Sediti opened the scoring for the Eastern Cape-based side, but Matsimbi and Magubane had the last say in the game claiming all three points.
