Asante Kotoko SC head coach Eric Tinkler is targeting his first silverware at his new club, with the Democracy Cup up for grabs on Friday.
Kotoko will face their rivals Accra Hearts of Oak SC in the 3rd edition of the Democracy Cup, which will be played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on 28 August 2026.

The match is being organised in commemoration of thirty-two years of parliamentary democracy in Ghana.
Tinkler who took over at Kotoko a month ago, is targeting his first trophy outside South Africa as the head coach, saying he has experienced tough derbies as coach in Mzansi.
“We are obviously looking to prepare over the next week to ensure that we get to the game on the 28th in the Democracy Cup against Hearts of Oak and put on a good performance, especially at home in front of our own fans,” Tinkler said, as per Ghanasoccernet.
“I have been involved in a number of derbies back in South Africa, so I am looking forward to it because I believe it’s a big rivalry here in Ghana, and we expect a big crowd.
“Obviously, I want to please the Asante Kotoko fans with a win.”
Tinkler also roped in his former Cape Town City assistant coach Diogo Peral at the Ghana giants.
