Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has been nominated for the 2023 COSAFA Awards Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year.

The African Cup of Nations Golden Glove winner who led Bafana to third place at the competition is the favourite for the honour.

He’s been listed alongside Namibia stopper Lloyd Kazapua of Chippa United and Zambia international Lawrence Mulenga.

In the women’s category, Banyana Banayana duo Kaylin Swart and Andile Dlamini have been listed among Malawi’s Mercy Sikelo for the Goalkeeper of the Year category.

Esther Banda (Green Buffaloes/Zambia), Leticia Chinyamula (Ascent Academy/Malawi), and Rose Kadzere (Ascent Academy/Malawi) are among the Women’s Most Promising Player.

For the Men’s Most Promising Player category, Thapelo Maseko, who joined Mamelodi Sundowns from SuperSport United in the off-season has been nominated too. He’s in contention alongside Zambian duo Miguel Chaiwa (Young Boys) and Gift Mphande who’s currently on loan in Isreal from Atletico Lusaka.

The Player of the Year, and Coach of the Year, for the Men and Women’s categories are still to be announced.

The winner will be announced at a gala awards ceremony in Durban on April 19, with a panel of judges from across the region having assessing the period of January 1 to December 31, 2023.
